I’ve made today’s links free because of Election Day. Take care of yourself and each other, babes.
I was going to write something profound about how it felt to watch the World Series and be bombarded with those horrible anti-trans Trump ads the whole time. But I’m tired. You can read
writing (and talking) about those ads instead.I was going to write something about the hypocrisy of athletes like Nick Bosa getting to yell “MAGA” and not being willing or expected to defend his position, while marginalized athletes who support Harris are out here giving well-thought out political statements about their endorsements. But I’m tired. Jemele Hill had some words about that, though.
I was going to write something about the WNBA’s history of political activism and endorsements, maybe a review of the Power of the Dream documentary (I didn’t like the doc, but I think the subject is one of the best sports stories in history). But I’m tired.
Instead, I took my kids to our polling place this morning and I voted. I was told that Kamala is for they/them, so there was clearly only one choice for me.
I remember taking those same kids, then two months and two-and-a-half years old, to cast our votes for what we thought would be the first woman president in 2016. I remember crying on the couch that night as the returns came in, feeling utterly alone and sitting there in shock while my then-husband told me I was overreacting.
Tonight, we’re having an open house for friends who don’t want to be alone while the returns come in. We are all queer and trans. We will have the returns on the TV in the living room for those who want to watch, and we’ll be watching movies on the TV in the basement for those who don’t.
No matter what happens, I’m glad I have community around me while it does.

Frankie, thank you for all of your work. I'm glad you'll be with community tonight.
Also, thanks for sharing the Jax Preyer post. After I co-wrote an academic article on Barstool Fratriarchy, my co-author and I were allowed to team-teach a course on Barstool & gender politics this spring in URI's GWS dept. Preyer's post will be a great piece for that course.
Solidarity & support,
Matt
Frankie, take good care ❤️
