Between this and the assortment of new Grindr bio options that have landed in my inbox ("leftist cunt," "woke pussy"), the haters are really helping me out.
Frankie, I'm a big fan of yours, but why on Earth does everyone continue to platform Natalie Esquire, someone who's not only highly biased but also just started following women's basketball this season? Like, who is she referring to when she says 'people"? There's no citing of sources or anything! Just basic journalism that's not happening.
Also, loved the profile on JJ, thank you for doing it! I'm not sure if it's an SEO thing, but my only question would be your framing JJ in relationship to Caitlin Clark (to be clear, I'm not accusing you of only talking about Caitlin like that person on Twitter, I'm well aware how long you've covered the league! I'm just speaking in this particular issue)? JJ didn't even talk about Caitlin in the piece, except to give her and Angel props. I understand people on Twitter might be saying Clark saved the sport or whatever, but people on Twitter also say she sucks at basketball so there's wide range of opinions on there! And, the tradition of white players getting endorsements over black players is a long standing issue that JJ had discussed long before CC was even a thought, so not sure why it's being framed as though she is the only problem with this double standard.
Is this the UConn fan in you? UConn fans specifically seem to really have an axe to grind with her and bring her into everything.
It can be so frustrating sometimes to read WNBA coverage as both a longtime fan of the league and a fan of Clark, as it seems like there's always a concerted effort to pit Clark against the rest of the league, when most of the players seem to like and respect her, and vice versa (obviously this may not be the case for all players, but there is definitely a mutual respect and admiration between her and Jones)!
I’m not a UConn fan? I have no NCAA fandom at all! I asked JJ a question about what I thought the league could do better in terms of meeting the moment. I did not ask her about Clark or Reese specifically. The team at Complex choosing to use it as a pull quote for promotion had nothing to do with me and I had no control over it. It’s not how I personally would have framed or promoted the piece.
Separately, I asked JJ about whether she thought the increase in money and sponsorships were being felt proportionately throughout the league or if longstanding issues were still at play; I did not ask her about Clark.
we want our “woke horror fantasy” merch!!! it’s much better than “DEI hire” or its Gen X precursor (now I’m dating myself), “affirmative action baby”
