Thank you so much for being here! I am a full-time freelance writer and paid subscriptions to this newsletter allow me to continue to do work like this. Paid subscribers will also have access to events, like our first book club discussion this Wednesday! Upgrade below:
Hi, everyone! I’m still figuring out the best way to format this, so please give me feedback and let me know what is working and what is not. Our very first book club discussion is this week, and for January we read Hail Mary: The Rise and Fall of the National Women’s Football League.
We’ll be meeting on Wednesday, January 29 at 8 PM ET/5 PM PT, and I’ll be joined by my co-author, Lyndsey D’Arcangelo, as well as Linda Stamps, a founding member of the NWFL’s Columbus Pacesetters. Registration is required for access to the event (registration link is at the bottom of this email).
The discussion will be recorded and sent out afterwards for people who can’t attend in real time, but you must be registered for the event to receive the recording.
My hope for these syllabi is two-fold: 1) for anyone who doesn’t have time to read the book but still wants to join the discussion, and 2) for folks who have read the book and want to continue reading about the topic. None of this reading is required! It is 100% optional.
(We’ll also be having an accompanying event the afternoon of Saturday, February 8th, where we’ll be screening The Herricanes documentary. The film follows the Houston NWFL team, and after the movie we will be joined by filmmaker Olivia Kuan and founding member of the Herricanes, Marty Bryant.)
Zoom links for the events are available below for paid subscribers, as is the HAIL MARY syllabus. There is also bonus material from the reporting Lyndsey and I did for our book, which includes original 1974 game programs.
