Today I am 40.
I fought and clawed my way here, built a self and a life that I love more than I thought possible. Today I woke up next to my favorite person in the whole world, someone whose face I first saw during a Zoom writing workshop during the depths of a global pandemic. Just four years later, we share city and a house and a life. Things are often hard but doing them with Will makes them feel possible.
Today I woke up with my two kids asleep down the hall in their own rooms, in this house we share with our favorite person in the whole world. There was a time, in the throes of a custody case, I thought I might lose them, but here they are. The greatest little loves of my stupid little life.
I’m staying offline today, mostly. My favorite big person has surprise plans for me today, and my favorite small people have surprise plans for me tonight. They’re not too much of a surprise, because I hate surprises, but the not all the details have been shared.
I hope you all have a lovely Friday the 13th. If you wanted to do something nice for me today, upgrading to a paid subscription or giving someone a gift subscription to Out of Your League would be incredible. My hope is that I can build this space into something that mostly sustains me, allowing me to pour even more time and effort into the work I do here.
I’m offering 20% off annual subscriptions for the entirety of Sagittarius season, so you still have another week-ish to cash in!
This newsletter lets me follow my joy and that’s only possible because you all are here with me. Thanks for being here, friends.
Happy Birthday!! I really hope I can be even a tiny bit as rad as you when I am 40.
Happy birthday, Frankie! 🎂🥳💐
